HSC / HS REP TRAINING
Joint Worksite Health and Safety Committee / Health and Safety Representative Training Course

Alberta’s current Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation includes mandatory Joint Worksite Health and Safety Committees (HSCs) or Health and Safety Representatives (HS Reps), depending on the number of workers.
While some Alberta workplaces have had HSCs for years, it is new for many workplaces and new for many workers and employers who now play an essential role in making their workplaces safer and healthier.
This is a full day online course (this includes two fifteen (15) minute and a 1-hour lunch break) that will cover the fundamental skills required for effective participation as an HSC member or HS Rep. This course is delivered by experienced and engaging facilitators who can provide you with “rules and tools” that will help you in your role on the HSC or as the HS Rep. This course will allow participants to learn about and practice fundamental skills for effective committee/representative participation in the workplace.
The course meets the legal requirements of section 201 of the OHS Code mandatory for of HSC and HS Reps (the “rules”) plus additional content and some hands-on practice with key principles you can apply in your workplace (the “tools”).

- Purpose of the OHS Act, Regulations and Code
- Internal Responsibility System (IRS)
- Roles & Responsibilities of Co-Chairs and HSC members, and HS Reps
- Obligations of Work Site Parties
- OHS Rights of Workers
- Health and Safety Goals
- HSC Terms of Reference
- Functions of HSCs and HS Reps
- Principles of Hazard Identification, Elimination and Control
